MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOUNG CARERS
CABARET SHOW!
December 2023

We had an amazing night!!!
The feedback I’ve been receiving from the families has been so special and heartwarming!!!!!
This was one of my fave projects everrrr, and I am so grateful for ALL the hard work by the Carers Centre Team, volunteers and the artists 💜 @BrightonYCP
We had performances by Young Carers, a quest through space, lightsaber battles, asteroid fields, intruders, wormholes… and finally Karaoke!! LOL
This was also my parting gift to say goodbye to my role as the 6-8s Case Worker. It has been so beauty… but I’m not GONE completely haha.
I’ll still be doing activities and Sessional Work (and events?!? 👀😼)
THANK YOU to all the amazing artists
And to the Carers Centre Elves!

DRAG STORY TIME!

August 2022

The protests against Drag Artists reading books to children, is an attack on us all!
It’s an attack on the most visible members of our community, and it’s attack on our futures: the next generations of young LGBTQIA+ people and our allies
Different identities are not a danger to children - the society that oppresses difference, is a danger to children
On 3rd Aug, we invited Brighton Drag Artist @TheFrankieFann (THE Book Queen!), to do a Drag Book Reading for the children we work with! …She was FANTASTIC!!!
We hired an array of costumes and wigs, for the children to dress up in from @GladragsCostumes
Frankie Fann read: ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS: RuPaul’, which is a lovely story about RuPaul and her journey... a story of friendship, acceptance and being true to yourself!
Then the children said to Frankie what they most enjoyed about the story and its message.
Afterwards, we revealed a tonne of fabulous dressing up clothes from GLADRAGS and the children jumped right in!!!
In a flurry of bright wigs, sequins and fab fabrics, the children were experimenting, creating, swapping and posing
Every child participated in the experience, whether they dressed themselves, or adorned fabulous outfits on the other kids!!
In the Holidays, we run free half-day and full-day workshops for children in disadvantaged situations, and this week we were celebrating Brighton Pride! We reaffirmed what Pride means: valuing ourselves and our unique differences, and accepting others!
This is the Kidzone ethos: to create a safe spaces where children can be themselves, respect each other and understand that other people’s differences are a positive part of life!
THANK YOU:
To the amazing @TheFrankieFann
To the wonderful @GladragsCostumes

FORWARD FACING MINI FESTIVAL
September 2021

We had a SUPER time at the Cabaret Show!!! 🥰💜 WOOO!!
HUGE thank you to Candice and the @ForwardFacingUK community for making the Forward Facing Mini Festival! so, so special.
On 2nd Sep Forward Facing teamed up with Kidzone Artclub to create a mini day festival. We brought families together, for a day of socialising, fun and catching up at the amazing One Garden in Stanmer Park!
The lockdowns have meant that many families have been unable to spend time with their friends and relatives. This day was an opportunity for people from the Forward Facing and Young Carers communities to come together, engage in some fun activities, get creative with arts and crafts, as well as enjoy some live entertainment!
It's been nearly 2 years since the families in the Forward Facing community saw each other. Candice would normally run an annual event called 'Memory Making Day', and until this festival, it had not happened in 2 years... You can imagine just how important events like that are for the people in this community.
The Cabaret show was hosted by artist @AsherFynn, and featured 3 artists:
@SkyFlowArtist - who is a Brighton-based circus artist
@BeecherMax - who is a London-based contortionist
@RhyssPieces_ - who is a London-based Drag Artist.
There was fabulous dressing up and photo booth run by Sue, and gorgeous face painting by Toxi @MadeByToxish. There were fantastic artists from Kidzone. We had many wonderful volunteers who made this a really special event. We send out our gratitude and love to them all!
The Forward Facing Mini Festival was made possible with The National Lottery Funding #CommunitiesCan
